21 Weeks and Mama is Sick...but Daddy felt Isaiah kick!

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

Isaiah is doing great but I feel awful! Somehow after all my flu vaccinations, prenatal vitamins, and daily vitamin C - I still got the common cold! Ugh. Being sick is never any fun but the worst thing about being sick while pregnant is how many of my go-to sicky meds are off limits. I never realized how much I rely on Dayquil and Nyquil! So I'm stuck with Sudafed and Robotussin - so I'm not totally out of luck but as my mama said, "Everything hurts worse when you're pregnant." I even stayed home from work today on one of our busiest days of the month. I feel awful and I hate missing work but I've got a little boy inside of me to take care of and if I want him to be big and strong, I need to get rest and get well.

To make matters even more uncomfortable, San Diego is having record heat for this time of year. Yesterday it was 105 degrees (no one went outside) and today it's supposed to be even hotter - ICKY! Thank goodness for AC! We have it blasting in our apartment so I can cozy up to my green tea and chicken noodle soup without breaking a sweat.

Despite all the icky germs I have going on, something very exciting happened in the wee hours this morning...DARREN FELT ISAIAH KICK!!! It was pretty incredible especially since he felt it so early in the pregnancy.

With all my tossing and turning and coughing, I wasn't only keeping Darren awake, but I was keeping Isaiah awake too! He was a maniac all night (and I can definitely feel him getting stronger). I was laying on my back half awake and Darren had his hand on my belly. Then Darren was like, "Whoa...I felt Isaiah move!" That woke me all the way up, "You felt that?!" He sure did! He said it felt like my heartbeat in my belly at first (like a pulsing feeling) except there wasn't much of a pattern. Darren says Isaiah was still excited from all the football we watched on Sunday. :) I think he's going to be a Seahawk fan!

I'm so happy Darren got to feel our little man squirming around - it makes everything feel that much more real and both of us feel even more connected. We never stop talking about him - who's he going to be? Who will he look like? How much will he weigh? We go on and on...we can't wait to see his cute little face!!!

20 Weeks! Halfway Done!

20 Weeks!!!

Darren says my front side is finally bigger than my back side. ;) It's crazy but I can really tell a difference looking at my back - it's much wider and more love handley than before.

Shirt down, looking prego. Grady is wondering what the deal is!

We had our 20 week check up today and everything is still great. I've gained a whopping total of 10.5 pounds so far and Isaiah is moving like a maniac. At the appointment he kept running from the heart moniter. Our nurse said, "Wow! He is a wild one!"

You're at the halfway mark — congratulations! Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (The way your baby is measured changes now.) He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (although some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Baby Isaiah's far!

I know it's still early on (halfway to be exact) but this little boy sure knows what he likes! Here are a few things Isaiah really gets a kick out of (pun intended):

1. He loves the mornings! As soon as I wake up with my half-caf coffee and start getting ready for the day he's doing flips and he does this pretty much until lunch time...takes a noon nap for a couple of hours and then gets going for the afternoon. Boy oh boy, he is active! I swear I saw my belly pulse today from the back flip he did.

2. He loves football! We turn on those Saturday and Sunday games and he goes nuts :) He must be my little kicker ;)

3. The smell of bacon. I made it yesterday and he was running in circles!

4. He also inherited Darren's sweet tooth. I haven't had much of a desire for sweets in the last 4 years or so...until Isaiah! But if my baby wants a cookie, my baby gets a cookie! :)

19 Weeks and It's a BOY!!!!

Our sweet baby boy! Isn't he just so dang cute? I think so and so did the lady doing the ultrasound. She kept saying "here's the [body part] - so cute!" She was so sweet!

And here's the proof that it's a boy! It took so long for this little man to open up and show us the goods but he finally did! When we first went in he was scrunched in a ball sucking his thumb with his arms and legs balled up - sleeping like a little baby! How dare he? The technician said she hadn't had a baby that difficult in years. So she had me go walk around drink even more water (I was already holding about 25 ounces) and then come back. Still nothing! At least this time she could get the anatomy. Then she said she had another patient to see but if I could hold my urine for another few minutes she'd be able to see me again.

So we went out in the waiting room. I was walking around, swaying back and forth and eating jolly ranchers. The funny thing is the baby was moving all day until we got to the doctor. I guess he's camera shy. We went back in about 15 minutes later and it didn't take long for the technician to say, "Oh, THAT'S a boy!"

I was kind of stunned because we had been trying to get this baby to show it for over an hour! I guess he just has to warm up to strangers first. :) I looked at Darren and I swear his expression matched mine - joy, elation, excitement! We really do have a little football player on our hands and we can't wait to meet him!!!

After the appointment we went to Target to buy baby clothes. This is baby's first outfit. He's our little monkey!

We saw this and started dying laughing - it was too funny! Like father like son :)

Mommy at 19 Weeks!

Darren and I were joking about my belly button the other day. I've always had a deep belly button (like when I say it's an inny, it's an inny all the way!). Now that I'm currently expanding my belly button is stretching too - the top is totally stretched out and the bottom is widening like crazy. It's a black hole!

Close up!

Love You Forever

As my belly grows and continues to bubble, everything is becoming more and more real! I know I've always known I'm pregnant and that leads to a baby but when your baby starts moving and you really start showing, it feels so incredible! We did this! We made the little one in there and he/she is ours and we get to keep him/her forever! It's crazy how much you can love someone so little and fragile; someone that you haven't even met yet. We talk to the baby, sing to the baby and recently started reading to the baby. Love You Forever was one of my favorite books growing up and I still have the copy of the book that was mine. We've been reading it to the baby every day. :) I love this baby so much it makes me cry!

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living,
My baby you'll be.

18 Weeks!!

Head to rump, your baby is approximately 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, although he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

Bubble, Bubble, Bubble!

This morning Darren and I woke up around 8:30 and were just laying there being lazy when all of a sudden...BUBBLE...bubble, bubble...bubble. Three times in a row! The odd thing is, this is the same time it happened yesterday - maybe the baby loves mornings :) All I know is, I LOVE THIS BABY!

Mommy got a boo-boo but the baby moved!!!

Wow. What a crazy day! Long story short I got in a fight with a knife while cutting my bagel this morning and had to get 3 stitches in my hand and a tetanus shot. While we were waiting, I was laying on the hospital bed talking to Darren and I felt a little plop in my tummy. It definitely was not gas!

Was that the baby? It had to have been! I've never felt anything like it. It felt like a big bubble popped in my belly or someone blew a giant bubble in a glass of milk with a straw and it went "ploop." I think Baby Moss was telling me, "I'm OK in here, mom!" They also checked the baby's heartbeat and things are still fine. I'm just losing my marbles and coordination. :)
